Ray J And Cocktail Face Off During Reunion Show

Then Ray J came out on stage, furious at Cocktail for showing up and putting his business out there. The R&B star called Cocktail the b-word more than once, losing his composure more and more as the minutes (which seemed like hours) dragged on. The show ended without an update on Ray and Mz Berry, even though we can guess that it was the end of a relationship that never really began. I'm left wondering -- Aren't Ray J and his mother Sonja listed as producers of this show?
More: http://realitytv.about.com/b/2010/02/08/ray-j-and-cocktail-face-off-during-reunion-show.htm

Is "I Hit It First" a Cry for Help? A Grief Counselor Assesses Ray J's State of Mind

Brandy: When we commit to something we give it 100 percent. Although it is scary to capture tough, dramatic moments in front of the camera. They didnt do their grief workyou obviously can see that." Clearly, Ray J's got some issues to work out. But, we asked Elliott, do these issues merit some kind of psychological diagnosis? Would Ray J be able to pin down what's wrong with him with a trip to a good shrink? It's funny we ask that, Elliott explained, as that there's currently a feverish debate in the psychological community about grief being included in the next edition of what essentially amounts to the encyclopedia of psychology, the DSM [Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders]. "The new DSM has grief as a mental health disorder with depression, which we who work in the field of grief have been saying, No, grief is a natural process. Youre never taught how to deal with it." Fair enough. And maybe Ray J's just dealing with his grief: About Kim, about Whitney, about being Brandy's younger, less-successful brother, about knowing that, while he hit it first, Kris Frickin' Humphries has also hit it.
More: http://www.complex.com/music/2013/04/for-the-love-of-ray-j-is-i-hit-it-first-a-cry-for-help

California Ballot Measure Would Base Teacher Layoffs On Performa

Robberies, burglaries and thefts accounted for most of the rest. In one eyebrow-raising instance, a man drunkenly "stole his neighbor's lawn mower and some frozen food items," according to the pardon message. A California woman burglarized a home "and took food to feed her children," another message states. The number of people receiving pardons just before Christmas news fell one short of the total number of pardons Brown handed down in 2012. Brown pardoned 128 convicted criminals in 2012, 79 of them on Christmas Eve, a marked increase from the 21 pardons he issued in 2011. The gubernatorial pardons came several days after President Obama commuted the sentences of eight federal inmates serving long terms for crack-cocaine related offenses, Obama's latest effort to soften a legacy of harsh drug-related penalties.
Read more: http://blogs.sacbee.com/capitolalertlatest/2013/12/california-governor-jerry-brown-pardons-127.html

California Health-Insurance Site Sees Rush at Finish Line

If you are in line when the polls close you get to vote, Mr. Lee said of the decision to allow people to technically enroll past the Dec. 23 deadline. If you start the application by the end of the day we will get you across the finish line. The move is similar to one made by the federal government , which is running health insurance exchanges for 36 states. Although Monday is technically still the deadline to sign up for insurance, contractors managing the HealthCare.gov website have changed the configurations to allow people to still sign up Tuesday for coverage that starts Jan. 1. People have until March 31 to sign up for insurance that would start later in 2014.
Read more: http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2013/12/23/california-health-insurance-site-sees-rush-at-finish-line/

Think California is too generous with oil companies? Think again.

Moreover, oil companies pay billions to private individuals who own mineral rights, which also generates taxes. Hiltzik notes that Alaska instituted a 25% oil severance tax under then-Gov. Sarah Palin s administration in 2007, but he neglects to mention that Alaska reduced and simplified the tax this year. Why? Because with the higher rate in place, Alaska had suffered a significant decline in oil production. It simply didn't work for Alaska, and it wont work for California.
Read more: http://www.latimes.com/opinion/opinion-la/la-ol-oil-severance-tax-blowback-20131224,0,1922366.story?track=rss

California School's TB Tests in Expected Range

The measure would compel districts to useperformance as the factor for teacher layoffs, not seniority. The text of the measure argues that layoffs based on seniority deprive many California students of a quality education. "Today, there are plenty of high quality teachers available, but local school districts are not able to make sure all of our children have access to a high quality teacher because local districts are currently forced to retain teachers based on how long they have been on the job," it reads. The states largest teachers' union has defended seniority-based layoffs, arguing that current performance evaluations are inadequate. The measure was submitted by Matt David, a consultant for StudentsFirst , the Sacramento education reform group founded by former Washington D.C. schools chief Michelle Rhee.
Read more: http://www.scpr.org/blogs/education/2013/12/24/15465/california-ballot-measure-would-base-teacher-layof/

New Zealand Winegrowers Enjoy A Record Harvest In 2013

Our batsmen bat on conditions that nip around in First-Class cricket so theyre used to it and it can expose your technique if youre not, the coach told ESPNcricinfo. I think everyones aware of the type of surface fitness that wed like. Weve been in India before and theyve changed the pitch the day before a game because it wasnt quite as dry as they would like. We certainly dont get any favours when we travel, so Id be disappointed if we provide any at home, he added. India will play New Zealand in a five-match One-Day International (ODI) series in January, followed by two Tests at Eden Park and Basin Reserve between February 6 and 18. On their last tour of New Zealand in 2009, India had won the three-Test series 1-0, registering win in Hamilton with off spinner Harbhajan Singh taking six wickets in second innings. But before that when India visited New Zealand in 2002, they were presented with tracks that could hardly be differentiated from the lush outfields in Wellington and Hamilton, and the visitors failed to score more than 161 in any of the four innings.
More: http://www.cricketcountry.com/news/india-tour-of-new-zealand-2014-mike-hesson-wants-hosts-to-prepare-pace-friendly-pitches-78836

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which was signed by TNZs chief executive, Kevin Bowler, and Qantas regional general manager for New Zealand & Pacific Islands, Rohan Garnett, at the TRENZ 2012 travel trade event in Queenstown, involves a NZ$4 million (1.95m) commitment split between the two parties from 1 July 2012 until 30 June 2014. The money will be invested in partnership marketing campaigns in NZs key visitor source markets. TNZs Bowler said the UK remains one of New Zealands largest source of visitor arrivals, alongside Australia, the USA and Germany. But other Qantas destinations will also be targeted. Qantas remains a significant airline out of the US, Germany and Europe and we expect this partnership to help tackle some of the challenges we face in those markets with the high New Zealand dollar and global financial crisis, Bowler said.Through partnership marketing we front page achieve greater reach and effectiveness of our campaigns by combining funds and offering attractive offers for potential visitors.
More: http://www.traveldailymedia.com/124671/new-zealand-seals-qantas-marketing-tie-up/

New Zealand woman breaks record for running 311 miles without sleep for 86 hours

Boult returned to dismiss the other century-maker of the first innings, Denesh Ramdin for 18, then Southee removed Darren Sammy for the innings' top-score of 24, Veerasammy Permaul and Tino Best in the 32nd and final over of the innings. Permaul and Best both fell lbw in an over which saw several decisions referred to the television umpire before Southee collected his 100th wicket in tests. The first part of the third day belonged to Taylor who, resuming on 56 not out, carried on to his 11th test century in 284 minutes of 239 balls. Taylor was the only New Zealand batsman who looked completely confident against the spin of Narine and he provided the foundation of the innings as New Zealand limited the West Indies' lead. He became only the second New Zealander after Mark Burgess to score three centuries in consecutive tests. In an historical oddity, Burgess achieved the feat in a test against Pakistan in 1969, another against England in 1971 and a third against the West Indies in 1972 during an era when New Zealand's test opportunities were severely limited. Taylor joined Nathan Max Workouts Astle on 11 test centuries and only Martin Crowe (24) and John Wright 17 have scored more for New Zealand.
More: http://sports.sportsillustrated.cnn.com/cricket/story.asp?i=20131220184521942994808

New Zealand seals Qantas marketing tie-up

It will be broadcast to an estimated four million viewers in the UK on ITV at 2:00pm on Christmas day, before screening a second time an hour later on ITV+1. The Irish star first came to New Zealand whilst filming The Hobbit and returned earlier this year to film his documentary with Alaska TV. The production was supported by Tourism New Zealands International Media Programme, which coordinated James itinerary with Regional Tourism Organisations and provided on-the-ground support for the production. Tourism New Zealands Director of Trade, PR and Major Events Justin Watson says the return for supporting such high-profile international broadcast opportunities is achieving endorsement of New Zealand as a visitor destination from popular and influential celebrities. "James Nesbitt is hugely popular at the moment and with the current hype around The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, having him film this travel programme here, was a huge coup for us. "Endorsement of this nature and through this medium will reach millions of viewers and is bound to stimulate the desire for a New Zealand holiday in all those British folk experiencing a wintery Christmas day. "We know that the endorsement of others remains one of the most influential factors in helping people make travel decisions and when endorsement comes from popular and appealing celebrities, the impact is even stronger." In a press release from ITV promoting the show, James says: "Its a country of contrasts, from its extraordinary, untamed landscapes to its modern cosmopolitan cities, from tribal warrior traditions to the worlds third most peaceful nation.
More: http://au.news.yahoo.com/a/20451057/new-zealand-stars-in-uk-christmas-day-tv-special/

New Zealand 6-0 chasing 122 to beat Windies

The market wasnt set up for that in 2008-09, so there was a lot of selling of bulk wine and offloading at bargain basement prices, he told AFP. There are now markets available winegrowers have ensured they have an accurate register of how much land is planted, what its producing and how much wine is coming onto the market. Burnside said the tough times caused by the glut had also forced winegrowers to cut costs and operate on lower margins, resulting in a leaner industry that was gradually increasing its profitability. A Deloitte report this week said there was a level of optimism that was not present three to four years ago in the industry, which generates exports of about NZ$1.2 billion ($1.0 billion) annually. The report said that larger wineries were proving more financially stable than smaller ones in New Zealand, paving the way for consolidation in the industry. With the financial difficulties faced by the smaller wineries, it opens a door of opportunity for those larger and more financially stable competitors to increase their holdings by either merging with or acquiring the struggling wineries, potentially improving their own economies of scales, it said. This is a trend that we have begun to witness in recent years.
More: http://www.capitalfm.co.ke/lifestyle/2013/12/24/new-zealand-winegrowers-enjoy-a-record-harvest-in-2013/

Air New Zealand kicks off Hobbit 2 campaign

The airlines new campaign centralises on a competition to win a holiday and tickets to the world premiere of the film in LA or a holiday to New Zealand. All promotion will focus around the theme Middle-earth is closer than you think and will include another Hobbit-inspired livery on one of its Boeing 77-300s. The design will be unveiled on 2 December in Auckland before flying to LA for the premiere. Air New Zealands head of global brand development Jodi Williams hopes the new campaign will help shift the perception that New Zealand is tucked away at the bottom of the earth and therefore too far to visit. For travellers from the majority of Air New Zealands long haul destinations, including London, Shanghai, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Hong Kong and Tokyo, Middle-earth is just a sleep away, she said. And among the fine golf courses found near Taupo, there is the older, well-established Wairakei, and the new kid on the block, Kinloch.
